Have you met the Three Williams Narnie?
Well, do you love tender, juicy, slow cooked, melt in your mouth meat? And do you like it with lashings of exciting condiments and complementary textures? Then you should definitely go and meet ‘The Narnie’.
The place to do this is the Three Williams Cafe in between Surry Hills and Redfern. Just make sure you get there after 11.30am – they’re available from lunch service onwards. [Update: they are now on the breakfast menu and available from 9.00am – woohoo!]
A soft, fluffy naan piece wraps the ingredients which come in three different flavours: beef brisket, pulled pork and slow cooked lamb. After consulting the waitress I reluctantly eliminate one of them as there’s only 2 of us, and we order. My choice today is the pulled pork Narnie which comes with fresh herbs, crunchy carrot slaw and a chilli caramel. Juices run all the way down my arm, and I have no shame in licking every last drop off. By the looks on the waitresses face, this is not the first time she’s witnessed this sort of primal behaviour whilst trying to devour their signature piece. My dining partner is much more graceful in her consumption. She’s equally enamoured by the the beef brisket version though with super tender brisket and a crunchy, tangy slaw for texture.
Three Williams also offer jugs of homemade sodas which change with the seasons.
Ours is a beautiful fizzy pink strawberry and kiwi version with fresh lemons and ice floating in the old skool milk jug.
I love the concrete warehouse style space of Three Williams. It’s decked out with rustic wooden furniture, brown leather banquettes and the walls are decorated with art you can buy. The service is super friendly, the coffee is great and the major factor for me – the food is so decently priced, it’s one of the cheaper cafés in Sydney. Now you just have to get in! Breakfast on weekends can see you waiting for a little, but it’s just another reason to make sure you go.
