Three Blogging 101 Resources

So, you’ve decided to start blogging. Woohoo! That’s an exciting decision you’ve made there. At the same time, it can be daunting. Where do you start? There is an avalanche’s worth of information about programs, tools & services on the world wide web. Who and what tools do you trust when you haven’t tried them and really, you just don’t know much about blogging just yet? I was at the beginning myself not too long ago and I know what that sense of excitement/overwhelm feels like. I wish I’d been able to give myself this advice when I started, but at least I’m able to pass on what I’ve learnt and valued.

Three of the most important things to consider in: How to start a blog.

1. The blog itself (Blog name/your niche/blog platform/hosting etc, etc, etc, )

2. SEO (Search Engine Optimisation)

3. Social Media

1. Getting started with your blog

2. SEO (Search Engine Optimisation)

Kate Toon is an SEO expert and copywriter who runs the Recipe for SEO Success. Search engine optimisation is something you should build into your blog from the beginning rather than starting later on. Kate offers an awesome 10 day SEO Challenge that gives you a great insight into what SEO is and why it is so important. It’ll also introduce you to how to weave SEO into your blog, ensuring your posts rank on Google. The challenge was free until recently but now costs a very worthwhile AUD$19.95, also giving you access to a very supportive Facebook group where you can ask all your questions.

3. Social Media

The best way to get your blog promoted once it’s set up is by using social media. Once again there is a barrage of tools available to improve followers or photos, scheduling your posts etc, etc, etc. Many of these tools don’t charge for their basic offering but have a monthly fee for their premium services, which is where the real value lies. Donna Moritz of Socially Sorted is an award winning social media expert that shares invaluable tips on social media strategies, tools, apps and programs. In the fast-evolving world of social media, it’s really important that you stay on top of what’s new, what’s trending and how to optimise your posts.
